Delusional Rwanda leadership. Spends all the time the West craving recognition that nobody is giving him. Stay home.

Dibondo • 10 years ago

You are right. The fellow hardly stays home. He is forever in the air attending all manner of minor conferences. Poor Rwandans must be paying a bomb. He loves the West; the West no longer loves him and he can't stand being jilted.

Traveling is good and the guy is meeting many new people and learning a lot of good things.

The Kagames and the Musevenis of this world should know that, sometimes, you got to talk to your enemies whether you like it or not, just for the sake of humanity. You may have the upper hand militarily for now, but a lasting peace always come through negotiations. The problem in the Great Lake Region, is that there is no honest broker.

Joseph Burite • 10 years ago

Hohohoho, Kikwete forgets that FDLR is important in Kagame's Third Term project. His manifesto will read..." A third time so that he can continue the fight against negative forces like FDLR." Besides, Kagame needs FDLR in order to keep Rwandans intimidated.

coldtusker • 10 years ago

Asking Rwandans to talk to FDLR is like asking Jews to talk to Nazis.

serengetiYAmoto • 10 years ago

I agree with you, people who never saw the strife and death wrought to innocent Rwandese should think before they shout their ignorance

John Bosco • 10 years ago

Mr Kagame and fellow Rwandese , I do not know whether using using non presidential language like 'nonsense' will help us in any way.We need to learn lessons from our Tz brothers( Most peaceful country in the region). Tz has managed to transform the prevailing peace into an economic power. Statistics below from wikipedia and CIA fact book speak for themselves

GDP Tanzania is 67.9 Billion USD and TZ GDP per capita is 1600USD

GDP for Rwanda is 8 Billion USD and GDP per capita is 800USD.

Rwandese should stop war mongering and victim mentality and concentrate on building the economy and peaceful coexistance with our neighbours moving forward.

Laurent3 • 10 years ago

John Bosco, is that how you make comparison?? Is more statistics to help you: Rwanda is 26,338 km2 and Tanzania is 945,203 km2, in other words Tanzania is 35 times bigger than Rwanda with access to the ocean. $67.9 Billion is only 8.5 times more than Rwanda GDP. So I would say since Rwanda is land locked it is doing pretty good compared to Tanzania. While the potentials for Tanzania are enormous, Tanzania is not yet the economic power it ought to be...

Hamid Kalisa • 10 years ago

So Mr.President, has a military solution worked for you? If it has not, then why not explore other options including talking to the rebels themselves. I commend the efforts of the unity and reconciliation effort in Rwanda in diffusing the genocide ideology and enabling peaceful co-exsitance in Rwanda based on mutual respect. Why not extent the same spirit to these rebels, talk to them, give them amnesty, rehabilitate them and allow them to reintegrate with the new Rwanda. I am pretty much sure that no sane Rwandan would entertain any genocide propaganda after the reconciliation that has been going on. So naturally the ideology will die out. Keeping them at bay actually gives them recognition and a platform onto which to spread harmful propaganda.

kilim • 10 years ago

Mr. President Kagame how long have you been fighting these rebels? If you did not succeed then why don't talk to them? It look like you cannot win this war, I read that you have battling these rebels for 17 years and you didn't make any progress....TALK TO THEM!, you cannot eliminate everyone. Why don't learn from Angola vs UNITA, Mozambique vs RENAMO, White rulers in SA vs black majority and now USA vs Taliban? You can't change these rebels minds because they think they are right, they will fight to the end and nobody will be a winner. It is not a weakness to talk to your enemy, it is reconciliation just like GACACA.

Uwase Rachel • 10 years ago

Mr. Kilim, are those rebels you are talking about on the Rwandan soils? Are they anywhere near the Rwandan border? Can you please differenciate those so many rebel movements you have mentioned above from FDLR? I think you have to take your time to go through the background of those movements for you to compare them with FDLR, I think you will see the difference.

YouthfulAfricanVoice • 10 years ago

Yeah yeah, nobody else knows the Rwanda history, FDLR are monsters and you will never want anything to do with them, until you bring them before "justice" or eliminate them all. That will work!

Ian Kirenga • 10 years ago

Kagame is not fighting with genocidaires, kagame defeated them once for all.

TheAfricanThinker • 10 years ago

Fifteen school children from your country who are currently seeking asylum in Uganda are saying you are increasingly becoming autocratic.

Emmanuel • 10 years ago

Did you interview them or like africanthinker, you thought on their behalf? Why didn't they come to Tanzania?

Uwase Rachel • 10 years ago

theafricanthinker, how can think for Africa, a beautiful continent, when supporting cheaters in school? If cheating is allowed in Rwandan schools, will it promote democracy, or is that what democracy promotes or encourages? Try to reasonable on this issue. For your information, among the almost 15000 A level students sat the exams, only fifteen can speek autocracy when caught cheating. Try to think about it!

nirere • 10 years ago

Please please, let Rwanda deal with its own problems. Do you think Tanzanians problems are all solved, Mr kikwete first solve your countries problems before packing into others. Help yourself out before moving to others. And slow down people, We Rwandans know where we came from. I wish kikwete/Tanzania would have done something when 1million people died in RWANDA1994. Stop start talking have developed . Keep the crap to yourself.

coldtusker • 10 years ago

Where was Tanzania, much larger than Rwanda, when 1mn Rwandans were being killed by FDLR? Rwanda is right at the doorstep of Tanzania. They share a border & Tanzania could have sent in troops in a matter of days (or even hours) to stop the genocide.

Ian Kirenga • 10 years ago

Kikwete is far from where THE BIG HERO is,kikwete will have to climb millions of millions of HIS KILIMANJARO to get where KAGAME is.

ruashi • 10 years ago

how about rwanda interfering with congo business?

YouthfulAfricanVoice • 10 years ago

Actually Tanzania opened doors for the refugees in case you have forgotten, unless that means nothing to you.

yours Musema Ukweli. • 10 years ago

Tanzaniana , call him mzee wasafari...since he entered power mean mr. Kikwete he has toured nearly all the countries on the expense of tax payers.
he has sold out his own country , where scholarships given to Tanzanians are sold to indians, Mr.kikwete with your little inteligence I think u have alot to deal with within your own mess. look how poor Tanzanians are, look at the lowes education levels u have....look how all ur soo called riches are in hands of foreigners.

U have no say before Kagame who has stood to show the world that yes we can.
Mr.Jakaya u were the first to vist obama when he was elected, dang puppet. u have lots more to deal with , and by the way your mandet is soon down may be as retired u join FDLR. Bomboclatt.

Kagoma • 10 years ago

Musema Ukweli Ua wrong!u call uaself musema ukweli while not why don't you go to the ground for reality on misleading information ua putting to the people to believe u!u cant explain Tanzania as ua doing u better keep quit and let wise people discuss (no research no right to speak),the , no point ua addressing rather than putting comments on what ua mind think and being objective on what u believe! Simple advise to u, research what you are talking so that u can come up with strong points and avoid being ignorance on the facts!think out of the box

jean paul • 10 years ago

Kikwete advice was a wrong one simply because it derived from faulty understanding... and saying FDLR is like other Freedom Fighter groups like ANC, MPLA is really an insult to these groups.I don't know what made him so stupid that day, but it really worked :-)

TOTO • 10 years ago

Brother Paul, be out of the box of prejudice. do you know how many Congoleese lost lives and homes because of the Kagame cheotic mind of look for so cold his enermies? you people think in within the boundaries of your tribes. Rwanda need all Rwandese to be in for it to have sustainable peace. Forgive each other and reconcile. they killed in Rwanda and RPF killed civilians of Congoleese and Rwanda refugees in Congo. Tell me who is clean?

Ian Kirenga • 10 years ago

Kikwete is a child in politics,he has to learn

Sam Muzinga • 10 years ago

ElaElaEla my friend you are talking from uninformed angle or ur just jealousy what Rwanda has a achieved is real not stories like you think. Facts can tell eg Eurobond and how it was subscribed tells it all, over 1m people graduated from poverty, one laptop per child, one cow per poor family, crop intensification program , over 97% on health insurance. more and more just come and we show the truth

Weisende • 10 years ago

The Human Development Index survey 2013 by the United Nations Development Program ranked Rwanda at 167 out of 187 nations, in other words, in the bottom two dozen. Uganda (position 161), Tanzania (152) and Ethiopia (173), Burundi ranked 178. The index is computed from a formula developed by the late Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq and Indian economist Amartya Sen in 1990.Why is Rwanda hiding the fabulous successes it keeps shouting about? It should alert the compliers of the index for a better score next time. ElaEla Ela stay away from the place if you have any sense. You will be disappeared should you venture there.

jasida • 10 years ago

Weisende sorry you need to be in Rwanda to understand all these BUT I believe Rwanda ls better than Tanzania by the why is kikwete bussy teargassing Mtwara people, Dar is a generator town the Guys need to wake up.

Martin ASIIMWE • 10 years ago

Weisende good to talk from a factual point of view but that does not mean that you are ignoring other facts. Site all those countries and show me which country has been stable for all that long like Tanzania- did u say 152nd and they have hard no instability since Independence. The Rwanda you are comparing has been stable for the last 15years. Amartya Sen redefined growth and development but Kagame has redefined transformation not just mere growth and development.

TOTO • 10 years ago

Good! and it has stayed stable because even when we differ in ideas, we take time look back and reconciliate. Rwanda needs to learn the same. wait and see how the mtwara issue and whatever you see in Tanzania as conflict will end.

James • 10 years ago

Talk to FDLR??? May be the likes of Kikwete, but not Rwandans. It is better to keep silent if you dont know what you are talking (like Kikwete)

Julian Mwine • 10 years ago

Does the FDLR want to talk? If so, what are their demands? Its one thing having a bunch of contrite people who are in the jungles of Congo and not home in Rwanda simply because they have no other option and would gladly integrate into society given the chance.

Its another issue all together if they still maintain their genocide ideology whose underpinning is to have the Hutu as the dominant ethinic group in Rwanda (at a minimum) and to finish off what they failed to do with the 1994 genocide (at the very extreme end of the continuum). Hence classifying them as a valid liberation force/political party has the implicit meaning of saying they deserve a seat at the table to participate in the running of country (or at least be given a shot at it).

Before people go around calling Kikwete or Kagame names lets get exactly what, as a basic minimum, the FDLR expects and that should be what determines whether talking to them is worthwhile or not.

ruashi • 10 years ago

man i highly respect your point let us hear Hutu grievances too than just dismiss them as such ........yest they killed in 1994 more or less 800 000 people but rwanda and Uganda involvement in Congo left us with 6 millions congoleses killed or unaccounted and the major players in that tragedy kundabatware,Runiga,Mutebusi are home and dry in Kigali without any one asking questions on these criminals.
Kikwete idea is not so bad at all

Uwase Rachel • 10 years ago

You know envy and jealousy are the diseases that have been affecting president Kikwete for so long, thus depriving him of the supposed his knowledge of the region's problems. He is so backward that he cannot even understand or differentiate between a freedom fighter and a genocide driven fighting group like FDLR, his favorite group. May be that Kikwete's sickness can only be cured by professional psychologists.

kimani • 10 years ago

Most of the comments so far seem to be written by people who do not understand the psychology of leadership. President Kikwete spoke in all wisdom of a statesman. Fighting has FAILED try talking. You say that he is jealous of Rwanda!! Hilarious, why would he? What is there that Tanzania doesn't? Why are you so flared up? Did he touch a raw nerve? Do dot argue and comment like you have not been to school!!

AnnGarrison • 10 years ago

Once again General Kagame asserts that there is one and only one story and one truth in the whole Great Lakes Region of Africa: his.

Silas Kamandaâ„¢ • 10 years ago

Soon the rest of East Africa will be trying to learn from Rwanda. Rwanda might achieve the 2015 MDGs faster than other countries in the region. Meanwhile Kikwete can be having tea with FDLR.

Jack • 10 years ago

Unless people with less intelligence information on the Rwanda genocide. There is no comparison with Jews. Kikwete is a every informed retried Cnl-highly trained in intelligence and for those who are ignorant-he has alot of information on what happened in 1994. FDLR-killed-how many did Kagame and his club kill within Rwanda and outside-Congo? Kagame-Talk to FDLR-you are poor country with no resources-any peaceful settlement of your problems-helps the Rwandese.

TOTO • 10 years ago

Good man yourself.

Uwase Rachel • 10 years ago

Kikwete's envy and jealousy is incurable.

Ian Kirenga • 10 years ago

Hate messi or love him, he will earn his millions . RWANDA will improve even more no matter what you say
